That 70's coat!
It's Monday which means that everyone is feeling a little down at the start of a new week and let's face it everyone would rather stay in bed on a Monday morning for an extra hour! I for one missed my alarm this morning and was only awoken by my mother asking if I was actually going to get up today. So the day didn't quite start off as planned but it needn't all be bad, for one thing - Mango has a 30% flash sale on!!! Obviously to cure my dose of Monday blues I have indulged in a little something to warm my cockles on a cold winters day and so I have purchased an item I have been craving for awhile now, a cosy Shearling coat. Depending on your budget it is a rather eye watering £69.99 but with the added 30% I got it for £48.99 and I've a feeling it is going to be an investment that I won't regret.

Not only is it clearly one of the best coats I have ever laid these blue eyes upon but it is right on trend channeling that 70s vibe that took over the AW runway shows and is slowly creeping into all the high street stores. I'll let you in on a secret, i'm not fully convinced by 1970s fashion but like all crazy trends - with a little moderation it can really work! I'm feeling this coat with a tailored shirt tucked into some ripped skinny jeans and a pair of brogues and a messy textured mop to finish it off! The people that know me and those that see me day to day in the office will be able to tell you that I've started to develop a bit of an attraction to patterned trousers, which will only have become noticeably apparent due to the fact that I tend to favour mostly black leg wear. I cannot fault an outfit complimented by a good pair of black skinny jeans nor a dress and 40 denier pair of tights, nearly everything goes well with black! So it came as a bit of a shock when I found myself floating towards rails of kooky patterns and tailored checks and more so when I actually purchased a pair - I settled on a pair of Primark trousers in white with a rather elegant navy leaf and magenta flower pattern. I found the courage to wear them to work the following week and needless to say, everyone noticed. I got a pretty good reaction out of people though which lead me to build up the courage to try some more and two days later I donned a pair of tailored trousers in Houndstooth check.
I think a lot of the difficulty in wearing patterned trousers is combining them with a top or even the right jacket, in my case I went with black on both occasions as I knew that it would work. Like I said - you can't fault black! I've seen some really good outfits on various websites however where people have styled patterns in a number of ways, I just don't think I'm brave enough nor bold enough to test it out yet. I like to think of my style as more subdued and relaxed, which is probably why I veer more towards monochromatic garments and oversized tops with tailored or skinny bottoms. With this in mind I have tended to look more at one type of pattern which has really caught my eye, mostly because it is in every high street shop at the moment. That pattern is the check.
Checked trousers have survived years and years of fashion and cultural evolution. For example tartan check is widely associated with Scottish history in which the pattern came in various colours and designs associated with different clans. It was then adopted by the punk scene and Vivienne Westwood largely uses it in her collections. You can wear it casual or dressed up, day or night and it still looks good. In conversation with a friend at work we both discussed the need for a pair of tartan trousers, I recall searching online a few months ago and yet I couldn't find a pair and she searched more recently as well yet to no avail. That is when I decided I would do some hardcore online shopping and find some great substitutes which would still have that punky yet smart appearance. The Slip/Cami Dress.
My boyfriend and I went out last night for our 1 year anniversary, it is amazing how fast a year can pass and all that happens within it. I posted the below picture to my facebook page -
A friend of mine mentioned that she liked my dress, I bought in Zara in December for a Christmas party but I haven't had a reason to wear it again until last night and I was more than happy to allow it out of my wardrobe again! It's a fitted slip dress and usually I don't wear fitted dresses as I am not overly confident about my figure, however this fits perfectly and smooths out your shape. I love the style of this dress and would love to buy some more similar to it, so I have trawled the internet for some gorgeous and sexy dresses that I love found on ASOS and Missguided -

Asos Wishlist May.
Sorry for the delay in posts, we haven't had internet for awhile and i am now stealing the computer at my boyfriend's house to make a post! I've been fairly busy recently with work, driving, revising and planning the bf's 22nd birthday this weekend! Mine is next month as well...damn do I feel old! Feeling Tropical.
For someone who dresses in so much dark clothing i've developed a real bad appetite for tropical prints recently. I think it's the influence of the sun coming back into dreary old England as well as the thought that June-July-August (my three favourite months!) are only a short wait away. I'm also learning to drive again, which at the grand old age of 21 is a touch overdue really, but a licence means unlimited beach trips in the summer and i can't wait! I've included some garments on my 'Feeling Tropical' wish list that really sell the idea of cocktails and sandy beaches to me and would add a little sunshine to my own wardrobe!
Leather Love.
I was recently looking for a coloured leather jacket, but i couldn't find exactly what i wanted and after posting about Haim's style yesterday i found myself compelled to search again. I had a browse through some of my favourite websites as well as having a good google session and i have found the most perfect pink leather jacket possible! To say i am in love with this jacket is an understatement - it is perfect - the only problem that i face now is lack of funding. Damn my bad health and inability to go to work! I am determined to get this jacket but sadly i may have to let it go. Sigh. The others are just some beauties that i came across on various websites, the black Topshop number is a jacket that i have admired and lusted after from afar for awhile. The R13 jacket is a fantastic example of your traditional motorcycle jacket with an high fashion edge, it's something that i cannot afford but a little eye candy never went amiss. I'm feeling ripped jeans and plain tees or floral dresses with these jackets to liven up a Spring/Summer wardrobe. Who needs fussy little cardigans ladies, when you can rock up in your leathers!?
